The Netherlands is the 66th most populated country in the world, and as of March 21, 2016, it has a population of 17 million. According to the National Population Forecast, the population will reach its peak of nearly 18 million in 2040.

Age structure:
0–14 years: 2.9 million (17.4%)
15–64 years: 11.6 million (67.7%)
65 and over: 2.5 million (14.9%)

The number of people aged 65 and over is expected to increase from 2.6 million in 2011 to nearly 4 million in 2025. In 2025, 22% of the population will be aged 65 or over
