Colin Woodard, a reporter at the Portland Press Herald split North America into 11 cultural regions: Yankeedom, New Netherland, The Midlands, Tidewater, Greater Appalachia, Deep South, El Norte, The Left Coast, The Far West, New France and First Nation.

Then  Colin Woodard compares the 2016 presidential election results to the 11 cultural regions.
