This is an incomplete map of deaths that occurred in New York City over roughly the past two years. It only includes homicides and motor vehicle related deaths because that seems to be the data available.

Homicides are represented by a skull with a glock pistol pointed at it, other deaths are represented by a skull.

Because so many deaths occur at the same locations, a few pixels of noise is applied to the locations so they can be seen.

Leaflet, the mapping library used here, is not designed to display this many markers, which is why it's so slow. Sorry if it crashes your browser tab. You can move to a specific address by clicking the button on the lower left corner.

“Maps are like campfires – everyone gathers around them, because they allow people to understand complex issues at a glance, and find agreement about how to help the land.”
